Knitted lap blanket

Saturday mornings are a great time to finish off projects that have been lying around. I'm such an early riser that I usually have an hour or two of solid work time before I even have to think about the rest of my day.

This morning, I decided that it was high time I finished my knitted blanket. Julie made one for Erin and I liked it so much I thought it would be a good project for my return to knitting after 10 years. I started it between trips to Toronto in the Spring, and working on it a few rows at a time ever since. It's 10 rows by 10 stitches knit then purl and over and over and over again. The trick is to remember to switch up the stitches after 10 rows, which I didn't do and couldn't be bothered to fix.

Not perfect but good enough...

Craft day

Leanne, Lynette and I checked out Handmade Nation the other night and after watching the film, all I wanted to do was make, make, make stuff. Then, the director got up to speak and just seemed so burnt out and disillusioned that it was shades of PD... ugh, I remember that about the arts. Boo.

I won't fall for it this time, just gonna stick to crafts on the side. I've had a few conversations this week about the pros and cons of turning your passion into your career. We kind of did that with the shop, and I've definitely noticed that I shop less as a hobby now - probably a good thing! Keith was saying that he's stayed away from a career in biking for the same reason. Something to think about, I guess.

Tomorrow is craft day, and we're hoping to get three project done, although that might be a bit over-ambitious. Leanne is going to acid wash some jeans, we're both going to do some potato printing and make washer necklaces. Today I want to think about colour for the washer necklace and what exactly I want to potato print. I'm thinking some muslin or canvas for a tote bag? But do I really need another tote bag? Maybe placemats?

A couple of other things to add to my list:
1. I want to learn to screen print.
2. Paper cuts. Ummm... I dont' want to get a paper cut, I want to make a paper cut. Of all the artists in the doc, Nikki Mcclure was probably the most interesting to me. I really like her work and would love to try it. Amy Carol publishes paper cut patters.
3. Look at Sublime Stitching's embroidery patterns.

i forgot.

i also want to make this quilt! but i should start with something more manageable, maybe.

Let's do this

Since I'm constantly coming up with ideas for projects and activities that I promptly forget about, I thought it would be an interesting experiment to start keeping track, on the off chance that I actually follow through on some of these.

Some projects currently on my radar include:
1. Acid washing with Leanne
2. Potato printing a la Mociun
3. Washer necklace
4. Oven mitts from Lotte Jansdotter's Simple Sewing
5. Finish knitting my lap blanket and learn to knit using a pattern
6. Parfait dress from Collette patterns
7. Finish Built By you jersey minidress
8. Start homemade vanilla
9. More embroidery, for my own house this time
10. Make more hot sauce

That seems like enough for now. I'll try to add ideas as they come up and document projects as I complete them.
